Happy Thanksgiving to my American compatriots. I am on call today (Volunteered) and what a Thanksgiving it would be if I could get someone transplanted. As I said yesterday, I am running out of things to post so resorted to "Image Dumpster Diving" Last year I went to Atlantic City beach and used my 10 stop filter to get this long exposure during the middle of the day. I rejected todays post at the time because of the composition, its too straight and has nothing on the right of the picture to keep your eyes focused on the main element. However, I do like the ghostly appearance of the posts on the right that didn't sow too well on the first post.

It was converted in the excellent Nik Software Silver Efex Pro which I wrote about in the pixyblog forum and also made Scott Kelbys top list of gifts. I can spend hours in this filter!!!!!

An early rise again on Sunday to catch the sunrise. However, much like Sven over at the excellent From 10 to 300 I have been bemoaning the weather. Im just not getting the clouds in the mornings thats needed to get great landscapes. Hopefully some crap weather will come my way!

I did get one or 2 shots that I might post in the next day or so. This one is not a classic by anyones standard, but I did enjoy working on it.

Thanks to all who commented on yesterdays photo. Phil over at P.A. Photography commented on it being an HDR image. While true, in todays parlance its not. The shot was a combination of 3 shots. 1 metered for the sky and one metered for the sea. As I always bracket my landscapes, I also took the a small section of the 1 stop down image from the Sea metered series and stuck it over the burnt highlights of the sun reflection on the sea. So, while I have captured 3 ranges of light, it wasnt done in Photomatix or FDR tools.

This is a study shot and reminds me of why I like going to the coastline. So many colors, textures, shapes and visions of motion that are never the same. PP in PSCS4 with curves, boost in saturation and a vignette.

I was going to rename this "Break Neck Rocks" I am not all that pleased with this shot, It doesnt really say anything. However, Im posting it as I was nearly killed/drowned/frozen and arrested taking it!

The rocks are UNBELIEVABLY slippery (Thats a surprise) and my new Wellies dont have the best grip in the world. The waves would crash over the rock I was using as shelter and drown me and my beloved camera (hence the not so sharp image) It was also hard to get my tripod down as there wasn't a flat surface to be had anywhere.

To top it all-the local Policeman tried to tell me I couldn't be on the breakwater. As there were NO signs posted, I advised him that while I was inviting disaster, It was up to me to calculate the risk and "good photos only come to those that dare"-that should be my logo! He then told me that he wouldn't jump in after me should I be washed away, I said thats fine! He was pissed off enough to leave...I guess his donut sugar high was weaning.

The last of my Antelope Canyon shots-for a while! Don't want to bore you. Thanks to all for the comments, very much appreciated. This is more of an abstract version which I like more than the others, it shows more flow, texture, subtle light changes and the minute differences in color. I profiled the picture in photoshop and there are more than 30 different color hues in the photo. PP in Raw only and a boost in levels for the more recent "Petroglyph"

The second of my Antelope Canyon shots. Thanks for the comments yesterday. This place is a trial and a half to shoot in.

1. You have to be patient! You need to bracket all your shots so as not to blow highlights and shadows, therefore you need to use a tripod with an average of 20 sec exposure. What you dont see is the 100's of tourists that come through and hit you while you sooting, surprisingly its quite dark in there.

2. Sand continually falls on your gear so you need to have a jet blower in hand at all time-and dont even think of changing lens's.

3. Most shots need to be shot from knee high level. I run 6 miles, 3 times a week and row indoor 3 times a week for 40 mins-so I would say that I am no stranger to a leg work out. However, I wasn't prepared for the 100-150 squats i did in the 3 hours (which you need) I was there, my thighs (especially my left) were sore for days after.

4. You have to keep mobile. When your in the entrance and tourists come in-you move to the back-when the crowds arrive-you switch back to the front-in the meantime you need to chase the light.

5. If your looking to shot the famous light shafts that beam in you need to go in the summer months-June, July, Aug, Sept and early Oct. I would recommend the end of the summer so as to avoid the heat. You also need to throw sand in the air to create dust (Not good for the camera)

I had a great trip to AZ in the RV. I didn't take as many photos as I thought I would and those that I did are not that great. There were hardly any clouds in the desert, so light was terrible. I did take a trip to Antelope Canyon and spent 3 hours taking photos. i will post a few over the next few days.

A second shot from the wedding of Lisa and Francis in Sonoma. I wonder if Lisa or francis have found our signature on their wine bottle. On a separate note, I bought the new Canon Vixia HF11 for the wedding. This is one great camcorder and I am VERY happy with it. I have yet to download all the video as I am learning how to use Final Cut Express, but the image quality is spectacular. I cant wait to take this puppy onto the Ski Slope.

I was very lucky enough to be invited to what turned out to be one of the best weddings Diane and i have ever been to. You couldn't go wrong, California-Sonoma-Vineyard-Great Friends! i will have to confess that I am not a wedding photographer and I definitely dont like shooting people, so 400 shots later, I got 1 or 2 that i liked! Haven't posted much recently, a combination of work, training and triathlons with all round apathy thrown in. Went to Chicago for our anual pilgrimage to the Accenture Triathlon. Diane exorcised the ghost of last years performance with a 1st place Elite athlete age group win (despite falling off her bike) I did ok, was hoping to beat my time from last year but couldnt handle the last mile of the run, being in transplantation is NOT conducive to Tri Training.

Anyway, this is my take on what has to be fastly approaching one of the most photographed architectural pieces in the world, the Chicago Bean. I have another I might post of a night shot I took.

The Triathlon Season is now underway. While I will be dragging my 230lbs (115kgs) of lard round the course, my wife will be zipping her way round the field. This year she made the USAT All American Team (ironic as she is Irish) with an Honorable mention. This Sunday its the Philly Tri. Its hard to train for the Triathlons as a Transplant Coordinator. 36 hours of no sleep can really play havoc with your training schedule, So I live vicariously through Diane. Sorry I haven\'t posted for a while, I haven\'t had a lot of motivation recently, coupled with the extreme heat we have had (It makes for shitty light) However, I feel it coming back. I need to get out with Brad over at Wasted Photo to shoot and let him make me feel crap while he tells me about his post a day!

I took a walk down by the Delaware River the other day (see yesterdays post) at low tide. I was shocked to see how much crap is at the bottom of the riverbed. Most of the \"crap\" were plastic milk bottles that I am sure will take Millenniums to break down. There are also thousands of plastic bags-I am always amused by store clerks who look at me with bemusement when I tell them \"I dont need a plastic bag to take my 1 item to the car\" I had one person tell me that I had to bag my 1 item of milk as it was a store security policy!!!!!

This photo is in memory of my Grandfather who had no eyes. Therefore, as far as he was concerned, If he couldn\'t see anybody, then nobody was around and it was OK to fart in the pub. the problem was he had no concept of the SBD, ALL his farts were theatrical appearances. He was one cool dude, amazing piano player and was wearing Ray Bans before Ray Charles thought they were cool. He used to wear a 3 piece suit at all times and carried a waist coat watch on a gold chain-Today thats just bling-but then, it was style!

I cant work out if the sea looks like its long exposure \"Ghost Like\" or just total crap camera work and out of focus. This is another angle on the shot i posted earlier. The first of these was a toned single exposure. This is a HDR tone mapped version. I didnt intend to shoot this at the time as HDR-This is just a merger of several attempts at getting my exposure right for the single long exposure. Turned out ok I think.

I recently bought the HDRI handbook at Barnes and Noble. I have to say its a great book on the whole subject. It does go deep into the science of HDR as well as useful tips. I learned a huge amount about HDRI and can highly recommend the book.

I had my last day off today before hitting another marathon 2 dayer at work. I took a jaunt to Atlantic City and got this nice long exposure. I then headed to Brigantine and took a 3 hour walk up the beach. Nobody around-It was great. I found some old pilings that need to be shot at sunrise and when the tide is right. Hopefully I will get back there soon and shoot them-Stay tuned

I had the day off, Diane did too, We went to the pub and had a booze filled day. There\'s something great about sitting in an empty pub, on a cold winters day, drinking beer while everybody else is working. Perfect!

After nearly 1000 spam comments, I finally got my ass in gear and upgraded to pixelpost 1.6. Funny-the spam has stopped now. I know I posed this before, but why do people do it. Also, in the last few images I have posted I noticed a bit of banding on the final web page image. Anybody know any tricks to avoid this?

I made myself an indoor stand for backgrounds and macro shooting. As always, the pvc plumbing section in the Home Depot had a lot to do with it. I was working from home today so had time to get a few test shots off.

Not one of my best photos by any stretch. On a completely different note, it would seem as though i have attracted the attention of a few spammers on my comments section. How annoying, do they relay think people buy from them-I suppose people do-thats why they spam.

I dont have a lot to say about this one other than it took forever to process, 3 redos and a reboot. I will be glad when Depth Of Field Generator Pro is available for Mac. The lens blur filter in PSCS3 is just way too slow and blows out too much.
